160, Scope
Ballot 160 clarified wording in Chapter 1, Introduction, Section 1.2, Scope, of the Hanford Site Hoisting and Rigging Manual (HSHRM) to ensure activities being performed for the Department of Energy (DOE) are performed in a safe and cost-effective manner.   The HSHRM implements American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) consensus and Occupations Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to ensure the safety of hoisting and rigging operations to minimize risk to personnel and the public.  Whether activities are performed by prime or subcontractors for DOE, on-site or off, the same approved level of safety standard and requirements should be maintained.

158, Termination of Controlled Hard Copies of the HSHRM
Ballot 158 approved the termination of the production of controlled hard copies of the Hanford Site Hoisting & Rigging Manual (HSHRM). The HSHRM is available on the intranet and internet and can be downloaded and printed for those who wish to maintain a hard copy. This change will allow the immediate publication of approved ballots rather than the current practice of waiting several months to gather ballots to perform a controlled hard copy release.  The change will result in a cost savings and ensure each ballot is published upon approval on the intranet and internet, reducing the current lag time between approval and publication of the change.
