AdvanceMed Hanford (AMH) maintains custody and control of Hanford Site health information records for the U.S. Department of Energy, Richland Operations Office (DOE-RL).
Any disclosure of health care information, whether verbal, recorded, electronic, or by any other means that identifies or can readily be associated with the identity of an individual, must comply with the AMH policies implementing the AMH Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) program, Standard for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information; Final Rule, Privacy Act of 1974, Uniform Health Care Information Act for the State of Washington, Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Patient Records, and Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.
The information is maintained in accordance with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) records retention schedule for health information, 75 years. The original medical records are stored at AMH’s main clinic and working files are maintained at the 200W clinic for those that have had a first aid visit. The original records from these visits are routed to the main clinic to incorporate into the original file.
