Senator Murray Visits Hanford
U.S. Senator Patty Murray visited the Hanford Site on May 30, 2013. One of the stops on her tour was the site’s largest groundwater treatment facility. The 200 West Pump and Treat System removes multiple chemical and radiological contaminants from groundwater in the center of the site, where plutonium production facilities operated during the Cold War, and where underground waste tanks are located. The facility is one of the largest of its kind in the DOE complex with the capacity to treat 2,500 gallons per minute.
