Contractor Washington Closure Hanford has awarded a subcontract worth up to $4.4 million to Northwind Inc., a woman-owned small business based in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Northwind will perform nonintrusive characterization at the 618-10 Burial Ground at the Hanford Site (shown here in an aerial photo). Funds for the work come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create jobs and accelerate environmental cleanup. Northwind’s work scope includes determining the precise location of 94 vertical pipe units and 12 waste trenches within the burial ground. The characterization work will take about a year to complete.
