Description:
Using Recovery Act funding, workers are retrieving 12,000 drums worth of solid, radioactive waste from trenches in the center of the site, most of it in large reinforced boxes. The waste was retrievably stored in the 1970s and 1980s. In this photo, a forklift transfers a corroded metal box that is on a platform and wrapped in plastic from a process area to a temporary, aboveground storage area called the Central Waste Complex. The metal box was retrieved from Trench 7, Module 6.
