Tank Farm Mixing Demonstration Planning Workshop
Name: Tank Farm Mixing Demonstration Planning Workshop
Document Date: 06/03/2009
Keywords: Recovery,tank,waste,mixing,WTP
Description:
(left to right) Stacy Charboneau, Chris Harrington, and Walter Scott, all of DOE Office of River Protection, listen as Phil Gauglitz, from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, explains the workshop’s findings. The workshop was held June 1-3 to develop a strategy for testing systems to mix and sample waste in Hanford’s underground storage tanks. Reliable sampling is essential to providing a consistent feed of well-characterized waste to the Waste Treatment Plant where it will be vitrified (turned into glass) for safe long-term storage. Experts at the workshop came from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, DOE’s prime contractors WRPS and Bechtel, from industry, and from DOE itself.
