Topical Workshops
Through topical workshops, the Groundwater Remediation Project provides
individuals a forum to allow the exchange of information and ideas with
a broad group.
Conceptual Model Development and Reactive Transport Modeling
for the 300 Area Uranium Plume in 300-FF-5
This meeting was conducted to update results of scientific investigations of samples from
the 300 Area uranium plume and to discuss plans for reactive transport modeling. This modeling
is being done to assist with evaluation of alternate remediation approaches. The May 10 & 11, 2004
meeting included participation from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE),
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Washington State Department of Ecology,
DOE National Laboratories, the U.S. Geological Survey, and Hanford stakeholders.
The 618-10 and -11 Burial Grounds Remedial Design Technical
Workshop
The 618-10 and 618-11 Burial Grounds Remedial Design Technical
Workshop gathered technical experts from several U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE) sites, academia, and industry who have experience
in dealing with buried waste containing transuranic (TRU) elements.
The workshop, held on June 10-12, 2003, in
Richland, Washington, was designed to share lessons learned and
identify issues and potential solutions for waste characterization,
excavation methods, stabilization techniques for removal and handling,
retrievability and segregation, packaging and transportation,
health and safety issues, treatment requirements, final disposal,
and compliance with regulatory requirements.
