Environmental Management Science Program (EMSP) Work

FY 2004 Hanford
Subsurface Science Needs
Past scientific research has resolved many critical issues at the Hanford Site, others have been investigated but remain unresolved, and observations at recently characterized waste sites pose new challenges and questions. The document "FY 2004 Hanford Subsurface Science Needs" presents current Hanford Site needs and their justification
The U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Management Science Program (EMSP) funds basic research aimed at advancing solutions for effective environmental cleanup at DOE Environmental Management Sites. The program's goal is to reduce the cost and risk of cleanup through targeted research efforts. The Groundwater Remediation Project's Science & Technology Project works closely with the Department of Energy to ensure resulting benefits of Environmental Management Science Program research efforts are applied to Hanford cleanup. This is accomplished through technical exchanges and guidance, as well as data and knowledge transfer. The Department of Energy's Environmental Management Science Program website is located at http://emsp.em.doe.gov.

Information about the FY2003 EMSP Principal Investigator Workshop held in May 2003 is available at http://www.pnl.gov/emsp
