Hanford Site End State Vision
The Hanford Site End State Vision will assist the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in developing nation-wide cleanup strategies that are adequately protective of human health and the environment, based on anticipated future land uses. At Hanford, those land uses were selected by DOE in a Record of Decision (ROD) consistent with the September 1999, Final Hanford Comprehensive Land-Use Plan Environmental Impact Statement (CLUP EIS), and the June 9, 2000 National Monument Proclamation (NMP) signed by President Clinton. The Hanford End State Vision document describes a post-cleanup condition for the Hanford Site. This document reflects a diverse set of interests and input as a result of a collaborative process with the Hanford regulatory agencies, stakeholders, community, and Tribal Nations. The document is not a decision document and is in no way a substitute for existing regulatory processes, including public input and involvement. It is a detailed near-term end state definition to better focus remediation decisions, and support key decisions that need to be made in the next several years. The document identifies eight alternatives that will be pursued through the existing decision-making processes. Chapter 5 provides a description of the alternatives and recommendations to support them, that exist between the end state vision and current cleanup plans. The information in this document was developed through a series of public workshops, helping to build a foundation that can be used by RL and ORP as they move forward in these cleanup decisions. Hanford's End State Vision document is available on this website. The document is also available for review at the U.S. Department of Energy Public Reading Room in Richland located at Washington State University, Tri-Cities Consolidated Information Center, Room 101-L, 2770 University Drive, (509) 372-7443.
