Managing Uncertainty with Systematic Planning for Environmental Decision MakingDQO Applications Training (Week 2)After attending the 3-Day DQO training class, Managing Uncertainty with Systematic Planning for Environmental Decision-Making, we will meet the following week with individual project teams to take them each separately through the EPA 7-Step DQO Process as it applies to their Site. This training is called DQO Applications. First, RPMs will sign up individually for the DQO Applications training, with the Training Coordinator or POC, and reserve a time slot, usually from 2-4 hours, during that week. The Project RPM will then gather background information for his/her Site and bring that information to their scheduled DQO Applications meeting along with assorted personnel. For example, various technical staff, such as the Project Risk Assessor, Geologist, Chemist, etc., might attend, along with technical staff from a contractor. Also, personnel for each Project from the State, Federal Facility, or PRP, along with their various contractors could also attend as determined by the RPM. Background material may consist of report summaries, lists of COPCs, maps, diagrams, photos, slides, overheads, etc., and other information used to develop the Project Conceptual Site Model. At the scheduled DQO Applications meeting for that Site, the Project team members will present us with a 30 minute or so background briefing to bring us up to speed on the Site. We will need also the Decision-Maker Project objectives, requirements as well as concerns for each project. Then we will attempt to take the Project team through the EPA 7-Step Process, using a worksheet, in order to show each project team exactly how the EPA 7-Step Process is supposed to work as applied to their project. The emphasis will be on us questioning the Project members in order to obtain the needed information from the Project team as opposed to having us spell out the elements of the 7-Step DQO Process for each project. It is hoped that this exercise will show the Project team members how to then apply the EPA 7-Step DQO Process to future projects. It is expected that during the second week we will meet with perhaps 6-8 project teams for 2-4 hours apiece. It should be apparent that the time involvement for any single person will not be 40 hours during this second week of training but rather will be 4-5 hours at a maximum.
