Evaluation from Leon Wilhelm
US Army Fort Lewis, USACE-Seattle District, and WA Dept of Ecology staff at Fort Lewis, WA

May 12, 2002

Sebastian,

I needed to exit quickly after our training on Wednesday afternoon so did not fill out the evaluation forms. However, I did want to provide you and your team with some feedback:

Overall I found the course quite illuminating and useful. I especially appreciated the presentation style of you and your team. Presentations were clear and well organized and I especially appreciated the example provided on the second day. I enjoyed the contrasting style of the presenters. The material would have been received quite differently if presented in a monotone. The beads were a good exercise to illustrate the points you and Jim were making.

From my perspective the only negative was the time limits on the individual modules which you are aware of - at times the information was provided somewhat too rapidly and there was no opportunity to reflect on and perhaps question some of the basic assumptions before rushing on to the next module. However, this is more than made up by your web site and links to the DQO process/workbook/VSP which I have added to my favorites list and will review and reflect on at my own pace.

From the perspective of a “regulator” what I like best is that the DQO process encourages submittal of proposed site investigations that provide a clear framework for the decision process used to derive proposed sampling locations and related elements of a site investigation. All too often I receive proposed sampling and analysis plans with no or incomplete reasoning provided for the proposal.

I appreciate Rich’s efforts in making this class available at Fort Lewis.
