Hanford Fire Department Celebrates Fire Prevention Month

During the month of October, the Hanford Fire Department offers a unique safety meeting opportunity to Hanford work groups.

In celebration of Fire Prevention Month and through their participation in the Public Education Division of the Tri-County Fire Association, the Hanford Fire Department is able to secure the use of this group’s Fire Safety House for a portion of the month.

Tri-County Fire Association Fire Safety House

This new unit, which is larger than the E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills in the Home) house, provides a more realistic fire safety experience in which adults can participate. Some of the unique feature of the unit provides participants with experiences that allow them to recognize an unsafe electrical situation with household appliances, or to recognize what a door feels like when there’s a fire on the other side of it. Strategies are provided to parents on how to share information with their children about fireplace safety and how to teach their your young children how to dial 9-1-1 to report an emergency and to direct emergency crews to the emergency. The new Fire Safety House also contains a number of realistic props to help teach children these life-saving strategies.

The unit can provide work groups with a realistic, hands-on, experiential safety meeting.
