What is LTS? (PDF)

LTS refers to all activities necessary to ensure protection of human health and the environment following completion of cleanup, disposal or stabilization of a site. The Hanford LTS Program manages the geographic areas for which active remediation has been completed.

The briefing focuses on the CERCLA Five-Year Review process performed by the LTS Program at Hanford. Specifically, the review report development process used by the LTS Program at Hanford.

Waste Management Briefing given at the 2015 Waste Management Symposium that was held March 15 to March 19, 2015 in Phoenix AZ. The briefing focuses on the Surveillance and Maintenance execution phase of the LTS Program at Hanford. Specifically, the required 5-year re-entry inspection of the cocooned F Reactor on the Hanford Site, now in interim safe storage status. A 9.5 minute video of the F Reactor inspection is embedded in the presentation. The LTS program now has responsibility for over 100,000 acres of land, over 300 waste sites and six cocooned reactors.

Waste Management Briefing given at the 2014 Waste Management Symposium that was held March3 to March 6, 2014 in Phoenix Az. The briefing describes the evolution of the LTS program from a small, informal process, with minimal support, to a robust program that provides comprehensive transitions from cleanup contractors for post-cleanup requirements specified in the associated cleanup decision documents. The LTS program now has responsibility for almost 100,000 acres of land, over 200 waste sites and one cocooned reactor (with five more soon).

This briefing is focused on how DOE and its prime contractors worked together to successfully develop the Hanford LTS Program. It highlights the successes in working with three different prime contractors, having three different contract types, and differing performance incentives to build and execute a comprehensive LTS program.
