SEGMENT 3 HISTORY

Segment 3 does not contain any documented historical reactor or operational areas. There are no known documented or organized waste burial practices, minimal below-grade engineered systems and underground piping, and no known liquid disposal areas such as ponds and retention basins.

Historical activities that occurred within the area prior to 1943 appear limited. No apparent farming activities (i.e., row crops and orchards) were observed. A small number of debris features and two concrete structures potentially associated with livestock were noted. No railroad features were identified prior to 1943; however, a railroad line was constructed after 1943 to support Site operations. Segment 3 does not contain areas of past military activity.

The archaeological record of Native American occupation at the Hanford Site stretches back thousands of years. Typical archaeological sites include pit house villages, open campsites, fishing sites, hunting/kill sites, game drive complexes, quarries, and spirit quest sites.
