PAST OPERATIONS
Beryllium brought in facility: YES
Form of beryllium: Analytical samples in SOLID (filter paper) and LIQUID (samples and laboratory standards) matrix
Period of beryllium operations (dates): Start: 1995 and continues.
Location(s) in facility that contained beryllium materials: Laboratories N-12 and N-15.

Description of beryllium activities: Analysis of swipe and atmospheric filter media to determine beryllium concentration.

Building monitoring data summary: None has been performed.
Personnel monitoring data summary: None has been performed.

Specify Engineering/Administrative controls used during operations: Work is performed in ventilated hoods equipped with HEPA filters. PPE worn included lab coat, gloves and safety glasses. Waste solutions are collected and then become part of the normal waste stream for the laboratory. None of the waste is identified as radioactive.

Maximum Estimated Past Be exposure: LOW (None)

CURRENT OPERATIONS
Building still present: YES
Beryllium present: YES (in sample matrix and laboratory standards)

Current building occupancy/activity: This building is currently occupied. The areas of the facility where beryllium analysis are performed are equipped with hoods and HEPA filters.

Maximum Estimated Current Be exposure: NONE

Basis for above information: Assessment of the analytical process and interviews with facility personnel.

Comments, including any additional information needed (specify): Beryllium is in non-metallic form.
