Acceptance Criteria Rev 20

In support of the Waste and Fuels Facilities Management Project (WFMP) and Solid Waste Storage and Disposition Facilities (SWSD), HNF-EP-0063, Revision 20, Hanford Site Solid Waste Acceptance Criteria, was completed.  The changes include:

  • Minor format and grammar changes throughout document.
  • Definitions, acronyms, procedures, and other references reviewed and updated.
  • Central Plateau Cleanup Company identified as plateau remediation contractor.
  • Waste and Fuels Management Project (WFMP) changed to Waste Projects and Operations (WP&O) throughout document.
  • Waste types (e.g., LLW, MLLW, TRU, and TRUM) clarified throughout document.
  • Sections 2.5.1 and 2.6.2: RadCon terminology changed from radiological release to clearance.
  • Section 3.1: Description format written to match other chapter TSD description formats.
  • Section 3:1: Table 3-1 - Waste codes confirmed.
  • Section 3.3: Table 3-2 - Several chemical synonyms added.
  • Section 3.6: Section added to describe Trench 94 function.
  • Section 4.1: Description format written to match other chapter TSD description formats.
  • Section 4.1: Table 4-1 - Waste codes confirmed.
  • Section 4.2: Pressurized aerosol can statement removed.
  • Section 4.4.4: Table 4-2 - Table updated to reflect current CWC storage status.
  • Section 5.1: Description format written to match other chapter TSD description formats.
  • Section 5.1: Table 5-1 - Waste codes confirmed.
  • Section 5.2: Pressurized aerosol can statement removed.
  • Section 6.1: Description format written to match other chapter TSD description formats.
  • Section 6.1: Table 6.1 - Waste codes confirmed.

  • Appendix G - Section G1: Waste generators must include estimated weight percent composition of the following waste constituents: Iron and aluminum based metal/alloys, other metal/alloys, cellulose, rubber, plastic, cement, other inorganic materials, solidified inorganic material, solidified organic material, and soil/gravel.
  • Appendix G – Table G-1: Minimum steel thickness specifications for 55-gallon drums. Container integrity requirements provided.
  • Appendix G – Table G-4: Clarification statement regarding waste liquids and sorbent compatibility. Ziploc bags greater than 1 gallon are prohibited sealed containers if the zippers are closed.
  • Appendix G – Table G-5: Trace chemicals statement added.
  • Appendix G: Text after Table G-6 moved before Table G-1 to match Appendix I format.
  • Appendix G: References reviewed and updated.
  • Appendix H: References reviewed and updated.
  • Appendix I – Section I1: Waste generators must include estimated weight percent composition of the following waste constituents: Iron and aluminum based metal/alloys, other metal/alloys, cellulose, rubber, plastic, cement, other inorganic materials, solidified inorganic material, solidified organic material, and soil/gravel. Isotopic data collected through sampling requires appropriate data quality and quality assurance objectives documentation. Only similar transuranic waste materials should be packaged together.
  • Appendix I – Table I-1: 30-gallon drum clarification. Shielding within the payload container is not allowed unless approved prior to packaging and the shielding will not negatively impact certification.
  • Appendix I – Table I-2: Inner unshielded container dose rate limits provided. Decay heat limits provided for debris and solidified inorganic waste.
  • Appendix I: References reviewed and updated.

Revision 20 is effective January 29, 2022.
