The health and safety of the Hanford Site workforce remains the first priority for DOE Hanford and contractor leadership. Over the past several weeks, federal and state agencies have released updated guidance for people who are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease. After completing a detailed review of all of the guidance, in conjunction with an assessment of our Hanford local safety plan, I have authorized Hanford leadership (federal and contractor) to begin implementation of CDC guidance for fully vaccinated members of our team on Friday, 11 June. To implement this change, each employer will provide their respective workforce with specific guidance over the next few days.
As we work together to progress our important cleanup mission, please continue to respect the personal choices of others. Additionally, it is important to recognize that there may be situations when fully vaccinated individuals continue to wear masks, either as a personal choice or as advised by their health care provider.
The site medical provider, HPMC, continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for site employees and appointments can be scheduled via the Hanford Vaccine Scheduling App. Vaccinations can also be obtained through the Benton Franklin Health District’s (BFHD) weekly pop-up clinics, as well as through local medical providers and pharmacies. For a full list of vaccination providers, visit the Benton Franklin Health District website at https://covid19.bfhd.wa.gov/covid-19-vaccine-information/.
While our recovery from the pandemic has started, it will take time and continued teamwork to fully overcome the disease and its impacts. Over the past 14 months, scientists and medical professionals have continued to conduct significant research into the COVID-19 disease and vaccines. Much of this data can be accessed via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, as well as state and local health district pages, for those interested in learning more.
Thank you for your patience and continued dedication to our Hanford teammates and our important mission during these challenging and fluid times.
