The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) invites comments on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) that analyzes and describes the potential environmental impacts associated with the conveyance of land at Hanford.  The 30-day comment period will run from July 13, 2015 to August 12, 2015.  The draft EA is available for review here: http://www-test.hanford.gov/page.cfm/EnvironmentalAssessments

The EA assesses the potential environmental effects of conveying approximately 1,641 acres of Hanford Site land to the local economic development organization, the Tri-City Development Council (TRIDEC). TRIDEC has requested the transfer of land located near the southeastern corner of the Hanford Site for industrial and economic development purposes.  The EA analyzes the reasonably foreseeable environmental effects associated with the probable future uses of lands, including warehousing and distribution; research and development; technology manufacturing; food processing and agriculture; “back office” (i.e., business services); and energy (i.e., solar, biofuels)

An open house and public meeting will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 486 Bradley Blvd, Richland, Washington.  The open house portion will be held from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. and a briefing on the draft environmental assessment including a formal comment portion will be from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
