Notice of public information workshop July 20 for PUREX Tunnel 2
The U.S. Department of Energy Richland Operations Office (DOE-RL) and the State of Washington, Department of Ecology (Ecology) invite you to learn more about Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant (PUREX) Tunnel 2.
During a June 30, 2017 news conference, DOE-RL committed to holding this workshop to help the public understand the results of an engineering evaluation of PUREX Tunnel 2, following the partial collapse and stabilization of Tunnel 1. The workshop is being held to receive feedback from interested members of the public, as well as current and former employees. The workshop format includes an information overview by the Department, a regulatory perspective by Ecology, and the two agencies answering questions. There is no formal comment period associated with the workshop.
The workshop will be held on July 20, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 480 Columbia Point Drive, Richland, WA 99352. You can learn more about the recent PUREX tunnel collapse and the engineering evaluations here.
