Event: DRAFT WORKFORCE RESTRUCTURING PLAN FOR THE HANFORD SITE AVAILABLE
Event Date: 05/29/14 through 06/12/14

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Richland Operations Office and the Office of River Protection are issuing a Draft Workforce Restructuring Plan for the Hanford Site and will open a 14-day public comment period on May 29, 2014.  This draft plan seeks to meet the objectives of Section 3161 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1993, consistent with budget and funding constraints and the mission needs of the Department.  The draft plan sets forth the Department’s approach for responding to the changing objectives and the changing contractor structure at the Hanford Site for Fiscal Year 2014 and beyond.

This draft plan establishes the general framework for implementing restructuring of the work force at the Hanford Site for contractors with workforce restructuring clauses in their contracts.  This plan does not cover activities associated with a single workforce restructuring action.  The objective of this draft plan is to minimize the impact of workforce restructuring on affected employees and the community, to the extent practicable, with available funding through reassignment, retraining assistance for internal job opportunities, hiring preference, outplacement services, and consultation and coordination with the community and area stakeholders to ensure affected workers are made aware of all available avenues of assistance.

The Hanford Site Workforce Restructuring Plan was first issued in 1995 with addendums in 1996 and 2002.  This draft plan makes no change to separation benefits currently offered to contractor employees affected by workforce reductions.  This draft plan implements the Secretary of Energy’s May 2011 guidance for the preparation of DOE’s General Workforce Restructuring Plan.  Once approved, this plan replaces any previously published Hanford Site Workforce Restructuring Plan and plan addendums.

You can provide your input during a 14-day public comment period, which will run from May 29, 2014 to June 12, 2014.  After the public comment period, the draft Plan will be finalized after comments have been resolved.  The plan is titled Draft Workforce Restructuring Plan for the Hanford Site and is available at:

All feedback on the plan needs to be submitted in writing by June 12, 2014 to:
